December ATC News

Tuesday December 17, 2024

We are now back to our "normal" published Airport opening hours and so we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and support over the summer. Our ATC and Briefing teams went above and beyond, and we are hugely grateful for their dedication and hard work.

Our ATC succession and training plans are well underway and, in more good news for Gloucestershire ATC, we would like to welcome Chris Fox back into our team. Chris left at the end of June to explore other career options but, we are thrilled to report, he has decided to return. Chris is already qualified to control again in the Tower and is also training in the Approach Procedural position. Welcome back Chris!

We are also delighted to tell you that Conrad Hollamby has qualified as an Air Traffic Services Assistant. Conrad previously worked in Landside Operations at the Airport for 8 years. This is an amazing achievement and Conrad is a fantastic addition to the ATC team. Congratulations Conrad!

Last, but certainly not least, we are pleased to announce that Rhys Donnelly has validated in the tower after just 5 months of training.

Rhys has previously been an Air Traffic Services Assistant at Oxford Airport. He gained his Aerodrome rating from Global ATS also based at Gloucestershire Airport. This is the first "valid" ATCO role that Rhys has held. He has done very well and all his colleagues in ATC and across Gloucestershire Airport are very proud of him!

Alexander Hawkins, Deputy Manager of Air Traffic Services at Gloucestershire Airport said: “I’d like to say a massive congratulations to Rhys, who after months of on the job training, passed his ADI validation board with the CAA in October. Before Rhys started OJT at Gloucester, he had to complete the Basic & Aerodrome course to obtain his Student ATCO licence, so this is the culmination of years of hard work to reach this point.”
